Description

This Autumn we’re bringing a series of nine free Digital Skills workshops to the people of Salford!

From Basic IT Skills and setting up social media accounts, to web development, programming and electronics! We also have three WordPress based courses to take you from website novice all the way through to blogger extraordinaire.

Dates and times for our Autumn schedule;

Basic Computer Skills – 17th October, 10am – 3pm
Become a confident PC user. Setup a Google account, including email, and learn how to write documents and use spreadsheets. We'll also be covering how to find and share information on the internet, navigate file directories and get a crash course in computer & internet safety.

Suitable for complete beginners.

Social Media – 19th October, 10am – 3pm
Don’t know your Facebook from your Twitter? Find out how to use social media for networking, communication and job searches, and create your own LinkedIn account.

Suitable for beginners, although we recommend attending the Basic Computer Skills course if you are not confident using a computer or the internet.

Setting up your first WordPress website – 31st October, 10am – 3pm
Create your first website using WordPress, learn about the differences between a page and a post, and add your first content.

Suitable for beginners, although we recommend attending the Basic Computer Skills course if you are not confident using a computer or the internet.

Programming 101 – 2nd November, 10am – 3pm
A whistle-stop tour of everything programming languages can do. A practical session using Python. We’ll be covering data types, inputs and outputs, data structures and loops. You’ll also create your first program!

Suitable for beginners, although we recommend attending the Basic Computer Skills course if you are not confident using a computer or the internet.

Intro to Arduino – 7th November, 10am – 3pm
Learn to code and make your own interactive projects using an Arduino.

Suitable for beginners, although we recommend attending the Basic Computer Skills course if you are not confident using a computer or the internet. You might also find the Programming 101 course beneficial.

Making the most of WordPress – 9th November, 10am – 3pm
Handy tips on how to make the most of your first website, creating menus, using widgets and playing with themes.

Suitable for beginners, although we recommend attending the Basic Computer Skills course if you are not confident using a computer or the internet. You must also have completed the ‘Setting up your first website with WordPress’ course, or have a WordPress website with basic content prepared.

Intro to Web Development – 14th November, 10am – 3pm
Learn how to make a simple three-page website using HTML and CSS, the building blocks of the web.

Suitable for beginners, although we recommend attending the Basic Computer Skills course if you are not confident using a computer or the internet.

Learn to Solder – 16th November, 10am – 3pm
Get hands-on and solder your very own radio kit, fun and easy to solder with 50 parts!

Suitable for complete beginners.

Blogging 101 – 21st November, 10am – 3pm
Put your first website to good use and start blogging. Learn how to create engaging content for your readers.

Suitable for beginners, although we recommend attending the Basic Computer Skills course if you are not confident using a computer or the internet. You must also have completed the ‘Making the most of WordPress’ course, or have a WordPress website prepared and be confident with adding content, themes and widgets.

All workshops are free to attend for anyone who is unemployed or underemployed. If you would like to book a bursary place, please email office@madlab.org.uk.

For all other bookings, we request a £3 refundable booking fee. On completion of the course this fee will be refunded, or alternatively, you can leave your fee as a donation to the provider to help cover the cost of a place for an unemployed person.

Please note that these workshops are only available to residents of Salford. If you live outside of this area and would like to know when other MadLab workshops become available, please sign up to our mailing list here.

A 30 minute lunch break will be provided but lunch is not included. Refreshments (teas, coffee, water, juice) will be available throughout the day.

All workshops take place at Salford MadLab, opposite Deli Llama on Bexley Square. Parking can be found close by at the NCP on Gore Street. If you have accessibility requirements, please contact us on 0161 839 6324 or email office@madlab.org.uk to discuss prior to booking.
