Optix Solutions Annual Seminar


With the digital landscape changing on a daily basis, it's imperative to keep up to date with trends - past and present. Held at the beautiful Deer Park Country House, this event is for those of you who want to know what to expect in the near future and to ensure you’ve not missed out on any of the changes in the last year or so. At the very least you’ll come away with loads of ideas to take back into your business and start implementing (and enjoy a fantastic lunch!).




After drinks and networking, Alastair Banks, Co-Founder of Optix Solutions will start the morning to review some of the big changes of 2018 and what to look out for in 2019 covering topics such as;

We will then break into 3 workshops which attendees can take their pick on before coming back together for our guest James Poulter, previously the Head of The LEGO Group’s Emerging Platforms & Partnerships team to explain to us how technologies such as Voice, will change the digital world. We will then serve a famous locally sourced lunch cooked by the Chefs at Deer Park.



James Poulter

Previously as Head of The LEGO Group’s Emerging Platforms & Partnerships team as part of the Digital Consumer Engagement division, James Poulter is pursuing new technologies, platforms and partners to build digital consumer engagement with LEGO customers, shoppers and consumers on a global basis.

James is a seasoned marketer and communications professional with over 10 years of experience. He previously was the Head of Social Media for LEGO’s social network for Kids, LEGO Life – which launched globally in 2017 and has since grown to over 2m active users regularly posting their content to the world’s first global and safe social network for kids.

As well as devising and developing social features such as LEGO Life’s emoji keyboard, custom characters and moderation systems, James oversaw the launch of LEGO’s global partnership with GIPHY leading the LEGO channel to accrue over 1 Billion GIF views in it’s first year.

Prior to joining LEGO, James worked for a number of the world’s leading marketing, advertising and public relations firms including Edelman and Ogilvy leading digital marketing, mobile and social campaigns both in EMEA and globally as well as new business efforts for clients such as Diageo, Unilever, Bose, PayPal, HP and Adobe.

Outside of work James is an advisor to the Church of England’s digital board as well as well as a number of other charities, entrepreneurs and startups.

James is also the host of the show “Signal” for The MediaNet which explores on a monthly basis the intersection between faith, media and technology.

James is a father to Hazel and Willow and husband to Holly and lives in Greenwich in South-East London. He can be found on all good social media as @jamespoulter.


Alastair Banks

Alastair started Optix Solutions, a digital marketing agency when he was just 19 out of a bedroom at Exeter University with a few course mates. Over the last 19 years that company has grown into one of the leading digital agencies in the South West, employing over 15 people and working with the likes of Exeter University, Stags Estate Agents, Ashfords Solicitors and the NHS.

Alastair has a passion for public speaking and has talked at events all over Europe. He has spoken on Exeter University's One Planet MBA as well as the prestigious MBA program at London Business School both on the topic of digital trends.

He has a number of courses on Udemy.com in which he’s had over 16000 students across 150 countries.

He has a keen interest in Entrepreneurship and sits on the board of a number of other companies as well as being seen as a trusted advisor to both local authorities and charities up and down the country.

He lives in Exeter with his wife Lizz, two children Oscar (4) and Alexa (2), his dog Freddie and cat Wilbur. He's a fanatical skier and supports West Ham as well as The mighty Exeter Chiefs. You can find Alastair on almost every social media site and he’s always ready to lend a hand or give some advice so make sure you reach out.

1) The Art and Science of Communication - Katharine Bourke

With over thirty years’ experience in business development, Kath will share insights into the softer side of communications thinking, including a consideration of what lies behind what we say and write. This workshop will also provide an understanding of our multiple intelligences and what they bring to a communications strategy.

2) The CRAFT of Mobile Readiness - Crystal Carter

Is your website 'mobile first' ready? With more than 60% of users accessing the net through mobile devices, it should be. Google's recent shift to 'mobile first' indexing gives sites that perform well on phones, tablets and other devices, a competitive edge. In this workshop, Optix Solutions' Digital Strategist, Crystal, gives you top tips on how to CRAFT your content for mobile.

3) Building a Marketing Team & an Effective Digital Platform. - Sharon Sandercock

Sharon, Marketing & Communications Manager at the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group has taken the digital marketing arm of the business from a handful of occasional tactics to the central part of their marketing strategy.

Sharon will tell her story over the last 5 years, detailing the challenges faced and how she has used technologies and processes’ to address these challenges. Sharon will also talk about how she has built a team and developed skills in house, as well as built up external teams. She will speak about how best to utilise & manage the skills external agencies can bring to the table.

Sharon will then open up discussions to her attendees where she can listen to some of the challenges you may face in your role.
