Talk Title: Challenges with real world Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETS) assurance
Deploying Privacy Enhancing Technologies into live, dynamic systems introduces new risks around:
- Design limitations
- Imperfect implementations
- Changing data, applications, roles and business needs
NCC Group will talk about how they leverage their expertise in security testing, data privacy and engineering to bring an adversarial approach to assuring PETS implementations at scale. To help businesses get more value from the data they collect whilst confidently stating that their customers data is adequately protected by leading edge PETS.
Speaker Biography:
Justin McKeown is a Principal Cyber Security Consultant with NCC Group. He leads the Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) team on TikTok's Project Clover. Prior to joining NCC Group Justin worked as an academic for over 16 years, and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). He has worked for several different universities, and founded the Computer Science department at York St John University. He is a graduate of the University of Oxford's Software & Systems Security programme; a special advisor for North Yorkshire Police's cyber and forensics unit; and a member of the UK Cyber Security Council's ethics panel
