Event description

Description

For our third event—and second of 2019—digital visual cultural turns to the dynamic practices of digital 3D modelling. Focusing specifically on laser scanning/LiDAR and the subsequent generation of ‘point clouds’ and three dimensional digital ‘mass’, the event will assemble scholars and practitioners across heritage science, archaeology, environmental science, architecture, and fine art disciplines. It will look to articulations of 3D visualisation across disciplines as means to explore how the use of these instruments and softwares of visualisation enable ways of seeing that are at once mediated, experimental, collaborative, and spatially complex.

The second day of the event will be structured around a series of talks from forest ecologists, media scholars, geographers, artists, and practitioners of 3D visualisation where particpants will both deliver papers and be placed in panel based discussion.

Confirmed speakers include:

Alexander Shenkin (University of Oxford)
Alice Ladenburg (Visual Artist)
Paul Chapman (Glasgow School of Art)
Robert Shaw (Discovery Programme, Dublin)
Sterling Mackinnon (University of Oxford)
Helen Pritchard (Goldsmiths University)
Linnea Saltin (Karstadt University)
Sam Hind (University of Siegen)

Here the speakers will cover many of the theoretical and practical contours of working with 3D visualisation across a specturm of applications; forest ecology, autonomous vehicles, archaeology, and more.

Tea, coffe, and refreshments provided.
