About this Event

Digitalisation of Energy

Energy Futures Lab launches its latest briefing paper, exploring the potential of digitalisation to radically reshape the way we generate, trade and consume energy.

Abstract

This briefing paper investigates the key technologies that underpin the digitisation of energy and examines their potential impacts. The paper's overarching objective is to understand the effects new technologies will have on the current energy system, the new challenges they will pose, and the policies and regulatory measures which will assist in making them a success. Written by Energy Future Lab's Dr Aidan Rhodes, the paper considers four technological areas of digitalisation: big data; machine learning and AI; the Internet of things; and distributed ledger technology, often referred to as blockchain.

Format

This event will take place virtually. Dr Aidan Rhodes will deliver a presentation on the briefing paper followed by a live Q&A with our panel.

Panel:

  • Dr Aidan Rhodes, Energy Futures Lab
  • Laura Sandys, Challenging Ideas
  • Dr Jeffrey Hardy, The Grantham Institute - Climate Change and Environment
