Event description
Digital in Practice Programme (DiPP): Digitally enabled healthcare: addressing patients’ needs in a sustainable way

About this Event

ICT-enabled healthcare seems to be stuck in enduring contradiction: on one hand, data aplenty and ready-for-use (about 1/3 of all data available is related to healthcare); on the other hand, elusive benefits for patients, professionals and systems alike. This is because data is typically stored in silos that are either not accessible or hardly interoperable if accessible. Furthermore, health data being highly sensitive requires high levels of safety and security. Regardless, there is a broad consensus that digitalization cannot but contribute greatly to addressing the most pressing challenges in healthcare, i.e. accessibility and sustainability. Which makes this question compelling on European policy makers: How can we unleash the full potential of digital health to the benefit of patients, professionals and systems alike?

In light of these premises, we thought it was time to investigate how most effectively to build upon actions initiated by the Juncker Commission (e. g. EU Data Spaces, European Reference Networks, digital health literacy) and how to help the incoming Commission and Member States get their act together as regards Digital Health (e. g. the upcoming regulation on AI, the Cyber Security certification framework, etc.)

These distinguished experts have kindly agreed to launch the conversation:

  • Ioana-Maria Gligor, Head of Unit, DG SANTE European Reference Networks and digital health
  • Petra De Sutter MEP, Chair IMCO
  • Jakob Tellgren, VP, Managing Director, Nordic region, MSD
  • Lisa Hollins, Director of Innovation Delivery at NHSX

Moderator : Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director-General of DIGITALEUROPE.

This debate will be held under the Chatham House rule.
