Event description

Description

The rationale for establishing a rural learning community is to create a supportive and developmental learning community which engages with the specific needs of those in ministry in rural contexts.

Across our time together we shall aim to:

· provide opportunities to reflect theologically on ministry and mission in rural contexts

· create an environment of trust and mutual support with accountability

· be rooted in prayer and worship

· affirm and support ministry and leadership

· enable learning from one another and good practice sharing examples in ministry, mission and church

growth

· engage with, and be informed by, contemporary rural contexts.

The Rural Learning Community is designed for all rural clergy and lay leaders in the Diocese of Oxford. We hope to have in the region of 40 people at each Learning Community occasion. The learning community will run every six months on an ongoing basis. Each day will run from 10.00am – 3.00pm. Coffee will be served from 9.30 am and lunch will be provided.

Each time we meet we hope to include input on a specific topic, structured group discussions, instruction on and opportunity to reflect theologically, with participants being able to generate ideas for future content. We shall also consider how we may remain in touch between learning communities using an email group or social media group.

Our facilitator on June 20th will be Canon Dr Jill Hopkinson, Canon Tutor in Rural Ministry at Sarum College, Salisbury, who was National Rural Officer for the Church of England between 2004 and 2018. Jill brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the rural church.

Please note that the closing date for bookings is Wednesday 5th June 2019
