Event description

Description

The aim of our disability awareness training is to provide service providers, employers, employees and individuals the knowledge and confidence to approach and assist with disability. Our course is an overview of disability generally and best practice.

The topics we cover on the course include:

  • The Medical and Social Model of Disability
  • Legislation including The Disability Discrimination Act and The Equality Act
  • Reasonable adjustments
  • Funding available for organisations to support employees with disabilities
  • Appropriate language and effective communication
  • Barriers that people with disabilities face
  • Innovative ways to support your disabled employees and customers
  • The difference between empathy and sympathy and the appropriate use of these
  • Stereotyping and unconscious bias

Our trainers have disabilities themselves and so are able to share their first hand experience of living and working with a disability.

Although disability can seem a difficult subject to discuss our trainers are well versed in the world of disability and their realistic yet practical approach coupled with their down to earth nature means that they are approachable, engaging and that no question is off limits.
