Disaster Resilience in the UK and Abroad

The Cabot Institute invites you to join us to explore the topic of disaster resilience in the UK and abroad, with two knowledgable and engaging speakers:
Colin Armstrong, Government Office for Science
Virginia Murray, Public Health England
Colin Armstrong is the Head of International Resilience at the Government Office for Science. He was previously Head of Science and Policy Advice for SHED at UKCDS, where he was responsible for the co-ordiantion of two expert groups designed to inform Ministerial decisions on emerging international risk and emergencies. The Government Office for Science ensures that government policies and decisions are informed by the best scientific evidence and strategic long-term thinking.
Professor Virginia Murray is a Consultant in Global Disaster Risk Reduction at Public Health England. She was previously Head of the Health Protection Agency's Extreme Events and Health Protection section. In addition, Virginia has been a Coordinating Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation, and has been the UK Government member on the UN International Strategy for Disaster Scientific and Technical Advisory Group.
