Dismissing an employee strikes dread into most employer’s hearts. Easy to get wrong, with unpleasant consequences and lengthy litigation if the employee makes a claim for unfair dismissal.

This course guides you how to:

  • Manage probationary period and dismissals for employees with less than 2 years’ service
  • Prepare for and chair a disciplinary hearing, during the workshop you will participate in a mock hearing and you will decide the outcome based on the evidence
  • Deal with difficult witnesses and uncooperative employees
  • What to do if the employee is signed off sick during the disciplinary process
  • How to deal with an Employment Tribunal claim and manage the ACAS early conciliation process

HR support post-training

On your return to the workplace, we’ll help you become confident in using your training to actually solve real world problems by providing you with a free support hotline so that you have a sounding board to check your thinking until you’re fully up to speed.

A team of 5 experienced and qualified HR consultants will be on-hand to help you. Your course fee includes up to 2 hours of email or phone support. Valid for up to 6 months after your training.

Trainer

Your trainer Sarah Loates is a highly qualified HR practitioner, with over 20 years of experience dealing with HR and employment law issues, within both owner managed SMEs and large multinational corporations. As well as delivering our own training, Sarah delivers CIPD courses, and has taught at degree and masters level at local universities. She also continues to provide client advice on more complex HR cases.
