Course Description:

This course will cover basic concepts of statistical disclosure control, including potential disclosure risks and available statistical disclosure control methods.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course, you will understand:

  • what is meant by statistical disclosure risk and statistical disclosure control;

  • why there is a need to protect data against disclosure;

  • how to recognise situations where there is a risk of statistical disclosure;

  • some of the disclosure techniques and tools that are used to protect data.

  • The course also introduces the GSS/ONS guidance for disclosure control

Brief Outline of Session:

The course is organised into the following sections:

  • Introductory Material
  • Risks in Microdata and Methods of Protection
  • Risks in Frequency Tables and Methods of Protection
  • Risks in Magnitude Tables and Methods of Protection
  • Access and Licensing

There will be a short assessment at the end of the training to check your understanding of the learning objectives. There will also be questions throughout the training, but you will not be assessed against these.
