Event Details

Thank you for considering attending our Duty to Refer workshop.

Feedback provided by our customers and stakeholders in recent years has indicated that the “duty to refer” is not widely understood by employers of “regulated work” (i.e. PVG) roles.

Consequently, Disclosure Scotland are offering specific referral training for employers to gain a greater understanding of the duty to refer process and when it applies in disciplinary or misconduct matters.

All employers involved in providing regulated work must be aware of referral obligations as part of their disciplinary procedures. The PVG Act 2007 places duties on organisations to refer individuals to Disclosure Scotland when certain conditions are met. Information on these duty to refer obligations can be found on our website.

This training workshop is designed to provide countersignatories and those within your organisation who are involved in the disciplinary process with the opportunity to:

  • understand why your referral obligations exist and how they relate to a safer Scotland
  • gain or improve upon understanding of your referral obligations to help determine if referrals to Disclosure Scotland are required in the future
  •  understand the process for referring to Disclosure Scotland
  • ask questions and participate in group discussion

Places on these events are limited to two per organisation, this is to allow as many organisations as possible to attend. If you feel a number of your staff would benefit from this training, Disclosure Scotland may be able to visit your workplace instead to ensure everyone is included.  If this is something you think you would be interested in, please contact our Customer Engagement Team via dsworkshop@disclosurescotland.gov.scot to discuss this possibility further.

We value your time and contribution and want to make sure everyone we have invited can participate freely. To ensure this we have confirmed the workshop venue has:

  • a ramp/lift/step free access to the building and all necessary rooms we’d like you to use during your time with just
  • doorways which are a minimum 800 mm wide for wheelchair access to all required rooms
  • a disabled toilet facility

If there is anything we have not thought of or anything else you need us to provide so you can participate (for example signer, easy read documents, etc) please let us know and we will do our very best to provide these.
