You are invited to join us!
An evening packed with fun and food tastings! We're bringing together individuals and groups to share tips, tricks and other little wins to make the most of our food.
On the night you can:
- Prepare and taste delicious foods to a disco beat
- Share ideas about reducing food waste
- Test your food know-how
- Learn more about food sharing with Olio and FareShare
Did you know that a family of 4 could save up to £700 a year by making the most of the food they buy? Couples and people living alone can also make large savings. At our Disco Soup event in Pinner on 27 October you can find out how this is possible and how you can make these savings whilst still eating healthily and keeping within your budget.
At Disco Soup there will be activities, presentations including from OLIO the food sharing app, and information stalls. Everyone can get involved preparing food that is being provided by the food surplus charity FareShare before a professional chef turns the ingredients into delicious meals that everyone will enjoy together.
The statistics around food waste in the UK are shocking. Not only is reducing the amount of food waste beneficial to our finances but there are also social and environmental benefits.
We’ve invited a wide range of groups and organisations but if you know of any local groups or others that would like to be invited to this event please let us know or forward on the details, asking them to get in touch with us. It would be wonderful if you are able to join in and help us promote the event using your website or newsletters.
If you can’t attend on this occasion and would like to know more about all the work we do to reduce waste we are very happy to meet individual groups. We can give interactive talks, run information sessions, have a stand at a community event and train up food champions. We use games and other resources to give relevant and useful hints, tips and ideas.
We hope to see you there!
About Olio and FareShare:
OLIO is a free mobile phone app that helps you connect with people in your neighbourhood of local shops that have food leftover over. The app helps you to share whatever you and others have left instead of throwing it away. So far over 50,000 people have signed up and shared over 100,000 items, not just food.
FareShare is an environmental charity that saves fresh, quality and in date surplus from the food industry, which would otherwise go to waste and send it to charities and community groups who transform it into nutritious meals for vulnerable people.
