This one day Discover Bookbinding workshop introduces many core bookbinding skills while making 3 different hard backed book structures.

Begin with a folded book form and add covered boards with a ribbon closure and you have a fabulous Meander Sketchbook!

Build on the skills you learn with an adhesive binding known as a Drum Leaf Binding, finishing with a bookcloth spine.

Consolidate and advance your knowledge and techniques with the third book structure, a traditional Case Binding with a single section and ribbon bookmark.

You will gain experience working with paper, book-board, bookcloth, linen thread, fray-not, and ribbon.

You will learn about paper grain, folding and cutting paper, assembling signatures, pricking sewing holes, preparing cover boards and more!

Some crafting experience is helpful but not essential. Please be aware that this is a fully hands on and fast paced workshop.
Many bookbinding workshop providers prepare materials in advance so that students essentially work from kits.
I believe this reduces the opportunity to learn and practice essential knowledge and manual skills to be able to make more books independently at home. Therefore I teach you how to make your books from scratch from the flat materials provided.

Please feel welcome to get in touch with any questions regarding the suitability of this workshop for you and to discuss particular support needs.

Materials for the project are provided. the ticket price includes Eventbrite fees and taxes. Tickets are non-refundable and not transferrable.

The workshop is held in the Barefoot Bindery Studio upstairs at Fisherton Mill. Your tutor Tamsin is an artist, bookbinder and experienced bookbinding and printmaking workshop facilitator. Working from her Salisbury studio she makes limited editions of journals and sketchbooks and offers a useful book repair service.

Fisherton Mill Cafe offers workshop participants a generous 20% discount on lunches, please ask Tamsin for a voucher.
