Discover the past and present of the Duke's Cut and about mining in the Boothstown/Astley Green areas (inc visit to the Colliery Museum)

About this Event

Learn about treasure hoards and headless bodies on this delve into the past of Boothstown, Worsley to Astley Green. Learn about the agricultural manorial traditions, the crafts and trades that resulted and the built legacy that remains. We also explore the impact that the canal, coal and cotton had on the community. Join me for a fun factual walk along the canal from Boothstown to Astley Green.

Let me introduce learning about the Boothstown Botanist and a famous suffragette as well as the night time antics on Chat Moss . At Astley Green, we will walk through the village and there will be opportunity to look around the museum, see the last Pit Head Gear of the Lancashire Coalfield and take a break in the quaint museum cafe Participants and can return at their leisure along the canal to Boothstown and maybe enjoy a pint in the Moorings Pub .

This tour will be approximately 2 miles and will take 1.5-2 hours.

On the day of your tour: Please arrive at the meeting place 10 minutes before the start of the tour.

Booking and Cancellations: Tour Tickets £10 per person. You are advised to buy tickets in advance as tours will not go ahead without minimum bookings due to safety reasons. Cash is accepted on the day. The tour content is fun and lively and is aimed at teenagers and upwards. If you feel your under 12-year-old child would enjoy the walking tour, please advise the tour guide via Bricksandwater@mail.com a minimum of 7 days before the tour and they will confirm availability of free child places. Dogs are welcome on the walking tours.

Attendees can receive refunds up to 7 days before your event start date via Bricksandwater@mail.com (there will be a small admin fee to cover the Eventbrite fee)

Accessibility: Tours are accessible depending on needs and the route can be adapted by the tour guide for those with mobility considerations. Please notify the tour guide of any mobility considerations.

Health and Safety: I have full public liability insurance. However, you are responsible for your own safety at all times. Please take care on uneven surfaces and whilst crossing roads. Also you need to be aware of other group members and their needs. Please stay together, particularly in areas of high pedestrian traffic and whilst crossing roads. Wear comfortable shoes. Wet weather conditions may make some surfaces slippery. Ensure your clothing is suitable for the day’s weather forecast.

If you wish to leave the group early for any reason before the end of the tour then please inform your guide. We promote friendly tours. Members that are rude aggressive or intoxicated will be asked to leave the tour.
