Discover Bromley’s Heritage: The heritage of Bromley’s Parks and Gardens
Date and time
The Bromley Civic Society invites you to Discover Bromley’s Heritage by taking a walk around Bromley’s wonderful Parks and Gardens
About this event
A walk around some of Bromley’s wonderful parks and gardens – our town’s USP! From the ‘hidden gem’ of the park behind the Palace to the sweep of Martins Hill, the amphitheatre of Church House Gardens and the close intimacy (under threat) of Library Gardens. The origins and heritage of these green spaces will be explained.
The walk will take about an hour and a half and will start at an exhibition in The Glades (near Boots on the upper mall) and finish at the floral display in the High Street as part of the Bromley Floral Festival.
The story of Bromley’s growth is told in an exhibition of old photos – from a small market town with a charter granted by Ethelbert, King of Kent - to a coaching stop on the way from London to the coast - to become a grand and flourishing Victorian town where HG Wells was born and grew up and where some remarkable buildings in the Arts and Crafts style of architecture were constructed. The exhibition will also explain how the town's most important open spaces came to be created.
Walks are free but booking essential as places may be limited.
