Event description
DISCOVER DICKENS ROCHESTER TOUR If there is one literary name associated with Rochester, it is unquestionably... CHARLES DICKENS.

About this Event

The old City centre is littered with locations and names which Dickens drew on for inspiration throughout his career, featuring many of them in his fifteen novels, five novellas and hundreds of short stories, most notably ‘The Pickwick Papers’, ‘Great Expectations’, ‘The Seven Poor Travellers’ and his last – and unfinished – work, ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’.

We’ll show you how Dickens incorporated them into his writing, and tying them into real events and coincidences which all add to the continuing interest in his work almost 150 years after his death.

Come along and learn more about how Charles Dickens rose from being just one of thousands of aspiring British writers in 1833, to become the highest earning author in the WORLD at the time of his death in 1870.

DURATION OF TOUR – 2-2.5 hours

WHAT’S THE COST? - All our walks are offered on a DONATION-ONLY basis. We believe NO ONE should be prevented from learning just because they can’t afford a set up front ticket price (up to £17 in the case of Rochester). For some, £1 is a lot of money. For this reason we leave this to your discretion.
