Event description
Discover the 'Ancient, Drowsy City' which features more Dickens locations per square mile than anywhere else in England!

About this Event

Come and discover one of Britain's historic gems, through the eyes of one of it's greatest novelists – Charles Dickens.

With more Dickens related locations per sq mile than anywhere else in the world, Rochester can truly claim to be at the heart of Dickens Country and we'll be taking you to some of the most significant places featured in his writings:-

Miss Havisham's home, Uncle Pumblechook's mercantile and the scene of the apprentice ceremony in Great Expectations

John Jasper's rooms, The Rev Crisparkle's home, Mrs Topes Tea Rooms and Miss Twinkleton's school - all from The Mystery of Edwin Drood

The Six Poor Travellers Home from Dickens' 1854 Christmas story 'The Seven Poor Travellers' -

and a whole lot more about Dickens' life and his connections with the place he called the 'ancient, drowsy old city'...

Rochester is just 35 mins by high speed train from London St Pancras and we have a HUGE range of eateries to tempt you and satisfy any needs after the walk!

We meet at 11am outside the main doors of Rochester Cathedral, just 5 mins walk from the station and with plenty of nearby parking.

Tickets are £12pp inc fees, and there will be a maximum of just 12 adults on the tour

Join us for a unique experience!

This walk runs on a number of dates. On SATURDAY's you can choose from 11am and 2.30pm starts, and on SUNDAY's all tours start at 12 noon so you can enjoy the tour, then still have time for Sunday Lunch in one of the many eateries in the centre of Rochester!

About our Small Group Walks:- These walks are designed for guests who would like a more in-depth approach to the subject. With a small group, a more involving rapport builds up as we follow the route, and many find this an environment which prompts the questions about England’s finest novelist they’ve always wanted answered.
