About this event

TanSuo Cultural Travel specialises in tours that take you off the beaten track in China. We pride ourselves on the extensive knowledge and cultural understanding of our travel experts, who will accompany you on your tour. Every fortnight on a Wednesday evening, we offer a free seminar on a certain topic related to Chinese culture.

Please Note: Instead of a Chinese culture seminar, this week's slot will be taken up with a 1-hour-long travel presentation.

In this presentation, we'll be delving into the captivating histories and vibrant cultures behind a handful of China's ethnic minority groups. While most people tend to view China as a relatively homogenized country, it is actually home to 55 officially recognized ethnic minorities. Each of these ethnic groups boasts their own cultural customs, traditional dress, styles of architecture, and festival calendars.

During our in-depth presentation, we'll be discussing ethnic minority culture in general and then taking a closer look at 5 different ethnic minority groups known as the Miao people, the Dong people (pictured), the Bouyei people, the Tibetan people, and the Uyghur people. Along the way, we'll have the opportunity to watch some exclusive footage of ethnic minority performances that were taken as part of our tours.

Join us for an afternoon filled with vivid photographs, enthralling performances, and interactive discussion as we dive into this lesser-known facet of life in China.
