Transport & Address:

We will be working at Funges Meadow, please meet us onsite at the gated entrance on Bowden Lane - click here for a visual. Parking is limited on Bowden Lane, however there is free parking on Keep Hill Road, or paid parking is available at the Rye. The nearest postcode is: HP11 1DL. Please park considerately and car share where possible


The Task:

There will be a whole variety of tasks, for all ages and abilities. So please come and join us to help keep Funges Meadow Nature Reserve an oasis for wildlife.

You can get involved in:

  • Topping up bird feeders
  • Watering & weeding
  • Mulching hedgerow and trees
  • Cutting back vegetation on the bank for mining bees
  • Path maintaintence
  • Litter picking
  • Bat detecting
  • Wildlife surveying


Plenty for all abilities so come and join us!


Timings (please note these timings are approximate):

16.00: Arrival on site. Task and safety briefing

16.15: Work begins

18.00: Tea & coffee break

20.00: Work finishes, time to go home!


What to Bring:

Please bring your gloves (we will have spares) and dress for the weather and the task.

Long trousers are advisable as there is thorny vegetation. We also recommend wearing steel toe capped or sturdy boots rather than trainers.

Wear layers that you can remove if you get hot whilst working. Bring a waterproof as most of our sites have no shelter from the rain.

Please bring plenty of fluids and a snack. We will bring a tea kit and biscuits.


Access: Funges is all on level ground and accessible for all. There are no disabled toilet facilties on site. The nearest toilets are at the Rye Lido.


Children 7 years + welcome. Children under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult.


Volunteering and COVID-19:Please do not attend sessions if you have tested positive for COVID or if you have COVID symptoms e.g. a new continuous cough, a high temperature, a loss of, or change in your normal sense of taste or smell.
