Description

ROCHESTER HISTORY WALKING TOURS

Although most of our guided history walking tours are around Rochester, there area number of towns nearby which have histories every bit as interesting. One of these is... GRAVESEND.

DISCOVER HISTORIC GRAVESEND

General Gordon of Karthoum, a secret RAF base during WW2, the last remaining ‘block house’ of King Henry VIIIth, a resort to Edward VIIth, one of the oldest town markets in the whole country, a host of architecturally-significant neo-classical buildings, the oldest iron pier in the World.... and we nearly forgot... Pochahontas!

If you ever thought Gravesend didn’t have much to offer historically, then it’s time to think again!

Join us on a walk around the historic area of the town and be prepared for a few surprises – and to have the ‘official version’ of a couple of well-known stories challenged as we uncover a town steeped in history which can trace it’s origins back to the end of the Roman occupation.

DURATION OF TOUR – up to 3 hours

WHAT’S THE COST? - Other providers ask you to part with £4-£29 per person at time of booking for their guided walks without any guarantee that they will be informative, entertaining or enjoyable.

We don’t do that.

We firmly believe that NO ONE should be prevented from learning something about Gravesend simply because they can’t afford up to £29 for a ticket to a walk, or for which there is no indication as to the quality or standard.

So, like many of the largest London walking tour operators, it is down to our guide to make the tour informative, entertaining and – above all – enjoyable. For that reason, we don’t set an up-front ticket price.

At the end of the walking tour there’ll be an opportunity to make a donation / contribution to your guide.

WHERE TO FIND OUR GUIDE - Meet your guide by the foot of The Clock Tower, in the centre of the traffic island. The closest parking is in Ordnance Road/Milton Place car park, about 5 mins walk away. Your guide will be holding a yellow meeting board showing ‘RHWT TOUR GUIDE’ so you can recognise them.

START TIME - We leave the meeting point at 11am SHARP! Please arrive ten minutes before then.

PLEASE NOTE - Children are welcome on all our tours, but parents should note that some of the content of the tour may not be suitable for the under 11’s as history can be a brutal thing, and there are very few places to sit along the routes, so children will be on their feet for the whole duration of the tour.

PLEASE ARRIVE AT LEAST 10 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE SET OFF TIME AS WE LEAVE.....PROMPTLY!

SET OFF TIME IS.. 11AM

For updates to your booking and telephone contact details for your guide, please email us at: rochesterhistorywalkingtours@gmail.com
