A Pan-African Collaboration
This course is a partnership between The Pan African Academy (diaspora-based) and the Ujamii Institute of Language (Kenya-based). Together, we bring you Discover Kiswahili: Language, Culture & History - a programme that bridges continents, celebrates heritage and makes Kiswahili accessible to learners across the world.
About Your Teacher
Rahab Kamotho is an educator, communication specialist and cultural advocate whose work brings people together through the power of language. With a background in Communication and Development Studies, she views language not just as words, but as a bridge that connects communities, builds identity and preserves heritage.
Her teaching journey began in grassroots spaces, sharing Kiswahili with diaspora groups in the UK, before founding the Ujamii Institute of Language, now part of the wider Ujamii Culture Hub. Through Ujamii and her co-founded platform, Afrolanguage Grove, Rahab has taught learners across the UK, Australia and beyond, creating spaces where culture and identity are celebrated.
Her teaching style goes beyond textbooks, weaving in proverbs, music, food and storytelling so every lesson feels like an encounter with living culture. She has also curated webinars, diaspora assemblies and Kiswahili Day celebrations; partnering with organisations such as Centum Real Estate, PayAngel and Equity Bank.
For Rahab, teaching Kiswahili is about more than fluency. It is about reconnecting people to heritage, fostering belonging and building cultural pride.
