Event description
Join a fun fact walk along the canal see a lighthouse 30 miles from the sea, touch a real steam hammer and hear of a right royal visit!

About this Event

Monton is often described as the new Didsbury with a wealth of bars and restaurants and a lively village feel. However, it sits adjacent to the Bridgewater Canal, the cradle of the industrial revolution. Hear interesting historical facts about Monton and Patricroft, the quirky buildings, the royal visit where her majesty was not amused. We start off at Dukes Drive in Monton -a green oasis where nature thrives- and we walk along the canal to Patricroft. Here we will learn about James Nasmyth’s Steam Hammer which was built and designed here and the 1830 railway which passes by. Also find out how cakes stopped trains.

This tour will be approximately 1.5 miles and will take 1.5-2 hours.(meet at Dukes Drive Car Park)
