Event description

Description

A guided exploration of Haweswater's nocturnal wildlife.

Naddle Forest is home to an incredible array of wildlife, much of which roams the gnarly woodland after sunset. Whilst searching for tawny owls, deer, badgers, foxes and more, your RSPB guide will share insights into the the sights and sounds of the woodland, including fresh tracks and nocturnal calls. Perhaps we will discover a badger’s footprint, or hear the echoing bark of a roe deer…

Of course, we will be on the lookout for the ultimate night explorers, bats! Using specialist bat detectors you will hear the incredible clicks, slaps and drips of 'bat chat', discovering how each species creates different sounds when hunting.

Returning to Naddle Farm, you can enjoy hot chocolate and biscuits as we continue to listen for bats around the building.

FAQs

Where is the meeting place?

Your RSPB Guide will meet you at the RSPB Haweswater office, Naddle Farm. The full address is detailed in the event description.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Unfortunately public transport to Naddle Farm is unavailable.

There is some parking available at Naddle Farm for those driving. Simply drive up the Naddle Farm lane until you reach the farmhouse (the RSPB Haweswater offices), where you RSPB Guide will be waiting for you.

Is this walk suitable for families?

Yes, we would welcome families to join us on this walk, however please be aware that some of this walk will include a guided walk through Naddle Forest at night. We would recommend it is most suitable for children aged 10 and above, however please contact us with any enquiries about this.

If you have younger children, our Wild Families: Bats and Bears events would be more appropriate, and just as fun!

What should I bring with me?

You are not required to bring anything, however you may wish to bring a light rain jacket and your own small torch if you hav one, however torches will be available. If you have a bat detector, feel free to bring it along too!

Are toilets available on site?

There is a toilet at Naddle Farm available before we set off for the walk, and we will return to the farm after around one hour.

How can I contact the RSPB Haweswater with any questions?

Please contact Visitor Development Officer Heather Devey at the RSPB Haweswater office on 01931 713376 or at heather.devey@rspb.org.uk if you have any queries.
