About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

The South Devon and Tavistock Railway Company opened on 21 June 1859. It offered a railway service from Plymouth to Tavistock and this was extended to reach Launceston in 1865. Subsequent demolition has left a few traceable remains of this once important rail link. On 2 June 1890 the Plymouth, Devonport and South Western Junction Railway opened offering a link to London.

Join Stephen and Claire Fryer for a visit to both of these railway sites.

The walk commences at 2pm from outside the Tavistock Visitor Information Centre in Guildhall Square and lasts for approximately two hours over reasonably level terrain including remnants of the old railbed.
