About this event
Discover The Artist in You! A Four-Week Art Workshop Series
Join ceramicist, Heather Barette in Week 2 of our adults-only taster workshops for JH Members, at Jersey Museum.
Our 4-week series of workshops will explore different ways to kickstart your creativity and introduce you to new ways of responding to the world around you through art and crafts.
Week 2: Nature in Clay - plant imprinting
This week's workshop, 'Nature in Clay' invites JH Members to explore the textures and forms of the natural world through clay. Using foraged leaves, flowers, and other botanical finds, Members will create detailed impressions in clay, capturing the delicate patterns and structures of their chosen materials. These imprints will form the surface design for a series of moulded clay vessels. Working with kiln-fired clay, Members will shape their textured slabs into pots and other hand-built forms, allowing nature’s imprint to become an integral part of each finished piece. This workshop offers a reflective, tactile experience - blending seasonal foraging with creative craft, and deepening our connection to place through clay.
Whether you're a complete beginner or someone who wants to rediscover your artistic flair, this workshop offers you a fantastic opportunity to learn a new skill, relax, unwind and meet like-minded JH Members in a fun and supportive environment.
All abilities are welcome, and materials are provided.
Special Opportunity
At the end of the workshop series, you’ll be invited to showcase your work in Discover the Artist in You!, an exhibition opening this December at the Link Gallery, Jersey Museum, in which you will be invited to a private view.

About the Artist
Heather Barette's studio, located just a stone’s throw from the picturesque harbour of St. Helier, serves as her creative sanctuary. Heather primarily works with stoneware clay, making functional pieces that evoke a deeper connection to the earth.
"I love the feeling of taking the clay from Mother Nature and transforming it into something beautiful, while retaining the symbolicalness of its origins; each piece serves as a little reminder of the land that bore it."
Heather's journey began at Jane James Ceramics in Jersey, Channel Islands, where she honed her skills in slip pouring earthenware, brush-on glazing, and kiln loading. Driven by a passion for ceramics, she pursued extensive training across Europe, including an apprenticeship at Tortus studio under Eric Landon and advanced courses with Luigi Pullini and Corrie Bain.
This immersive experience deepened her technical abilities - from wheel throwing and wild clay to alternative firing methods and Asian surface techniques - while fostering connections with a global ceramics community.
Heather is currently developing her personal style through commissioned and self-directed work, and teaching beginner to studio-level ceramics classes at Highlands College.
