Guided walk of up to 12 people, up close to the now decomissioned but once busy, bridge, via an interesting route involving a railway line , two signal boxes, a chemical works and the River Mersey. Your experienced guide from the Friends of Warrington Transporter Bridge will tell you its history, how it works and what it could do for the North West if it was restored

Is the route suitable for wheelchairs?

The footpaths are narrow and uneven but can take small electric wheelchair, a self propelled wheelchair might need extra muscle.

Is it suitable for children

If they like industrial heritage, history or trains, yes, but they must be carefully monitored by their parents/carers as we go through a working commercial site to get to the bridge.

Warrington's Transporter bridge is a Grade 2 * listed Scheduled Monument on the English Heritage At Risk Register. It is a landmark of industrial interest to local people. An icon for pride in our town.You can visit the bridge from a public footpath through the works or along the banks of the Mersey accessible from behind the animal welfare building off Slutchers Lane.
