About my classes

Belly dancing is a beautiful expressive feminine dance style with numerous health benefits like improved posture, coordination, low-impact toning and increased body confidence to name just a few.

In this taster class, I will guide you through movements and techniques to improve your control over muscles you recently discovered to create smooth and beautiful movements. If you choose to attend the course, each class is structured to gradually work towards learning a longer piece of choreography specific for each course. The belly dance choreography's goal is to put everything you are learning into context, making your classes an enjoyable and unique experience. And there's an option to perform this choreography for those who wish to.

About belly dance

Belly dance is a traditional dance form that originated in the Middle East and North Africa, known for its focus on fluid, intricate movements of the torso, hips, and arms. It is characterized by isolations of different parts of the body, especially the hips, belly, and chest, often performed to rhythmic, melodic music. And it is celebrated for its connection to body awareness, empowerment, and artistic expression. The dance can vary in style depending on the region, with influences from Egyptian, Lebanese, Turkish and other cultures.

FAQs

▶️ What style of belly dance do you teach?

My classes are based on Egyptian belly dance and folkloric dances. Every now and again, I may throw in a sprinkle of the other dance styles I have trained in, namely Lebanese belly dance, belly dance fusion and salsa.

▶️ What do I wear?
Anything that you feel comfortable in and allows you to move comfortably. For your feet, I recommend socks, ballet shoes or go barefoot. I typically wear ballet shoes, leggings, a loose top that I can roll up to demonstrate belly moves.

▶️ What level is this class at?
This class is suitable for those with some prior bellydance experience. I will cover the fundamentals of the dance but the focus will be on building on this prior experience.

▶️ I've done other belly dancing classes, is this suitable for me?

If you know belly dance (but have never taken classes before) and wish to learn new moves / turns and be comfortable dancing, I recommend my 5-week course instead where we will work together to build on your foundations. Plus there is the option to perform the final choreography for those who want to.

▶️ What fitness level do I need to be at?

No prior dance or fitness experience is required. Belly dance is a highly accessible form of exercise and can be practiced by people of all fitness levels from beginners to advanced. While it does involve some physical coordination and control, it’s not necessary to be in peak physical condition to start. If you're new to physical activity, you might initially find it challenging to control your movements or build endurance, but with consistent practice, you’ll definitely improve.

▶️ Is there an age limit for attending classes?

No. All are welcome from 18 years old onwards and in fact this is a great mother-daughter bonding activity.

▶️ Do I need to have a belly/be skinny to belly dance?

Belly dance is super inclusive. Anyone can learn regardless of body shape and all moves adapt beautifully according to each person's body shape.

▶️ How long will I need to be able to master belly dance?
This depends on every person’s motivation, commitment and availability. With one class you should be able to know the basics. I recommend students to take a level for 3 months before moving up - some need more time, some need less ;)

▶️ Do you do provide private classes?

Yes. If you prefer to start learning with a limited audience, private classes can help break the ice. You will also improve a lot faster than in a group class as all my attention will be focused on you. Contact me to find out about the different packages.

For any further questions you might have, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be happy to answer all your questions.
