About this event

Most woodland mammals are nocturnal and rarely seen, but thankfully their field signs can be easy to find and identify. During this fascinating day, with mammal expert Simone, you will enjoy an indoor session delving into the ecology of the local species before venturing out into this incredible ancient woodland to look for evidence of their tracks and signs.

In order to make the most of this course, you will need to be able to walk about 2 miles as you will be taken to some areas off the beaten tracks to look for, among other things, signs of dormouse-opened nuts, along with other indicators of their presence.

Simone worked for Suffolk Wildlife Trust for nearly 25 years in varied roles, most recently as Consultancy Manager. She has had a lifelong passion for wildlife and conservation, has led pioneering research into the hazel dormouse and is author of The Mammals of Suffolk.

You will need:

a packed lunch
stout footwear
weather-appropriate clothing, including long trousers
hand lens if you have them
notepad and pen
a camera and binoculars if you wish

Tea & coffees will be provided and are included in the cost of the course. Do bring any refreshments with you for your walk in the afternoon.
