About this event

Discover Your Ability 2024

Who can get involved?

Basically, EVERYONE.

The challenge is inclusive to all ages and abilities. We use adapted bikes and specialised equipment to ensure each and every person whatever their ability can get involved. We also love to have spectators to cheer on the partakers as well as helping to raise the profile of Able2B and these amazing children.

What is DYA?

It is a challenge that pairs up mainstream and SEN pupils in aim of reducing the stigma around disability. After a series of three team building workshops at the Able2B gym between March and June, the pair complete a challenge that involves biking, using adapted bikes if necessary as well as some frame runners. We have access to a whole array of bikes to ensure all children can get involved. In addition to the biking, the participants complete a walking, running or pushing (wheelchair users) challenge.

The event is to celebrate & educate about inclusivity.

Participants are encouraged to get sponsored for their challenge.

What about the adults?!!

A recent addition to DYA is an adult sponsored walk, a way to include all adults that are interested in taking on a new challenge. The adults of all ages and abilities set off around the course together with family, friends, and other volunteers to support them. A great support network and an amazing achievement.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to attend all sessions?

Ideally yes. Training sessions are designed so you get to know your partner and what you need to do to work together most effectively. We have picked different days so that any regular commitments would only have to be cancelled once. If you do need to miss one session this is okay.

Do adults doing the sponsored walk complete the training days?

No. The training days are for those working in pairs. We can accommodate some young adults into the paired event if you would like to look at this as an option. If you are unsure call us on 01603 986407 to discuss further.

I'm not sure if this event can accommodate me, what should I do??

Able2B specialise in being able to adapt activities to work for anyone however severe their disability. If you have concerns or questions however please give us a call on 01603 986407.

Is there an age limit?

There is no upper or lower age limit. If you think your child is too young to be able to participate in the team event everyone is very welcome to get involved in the sponsored walk/push to encourage everyone round.

What does my registration fee cover?

The registration fee covers the cost of the training sessions plus T-shirts, water bottles and a goodie bag for the main event. Any extra money generated it put into our charity funds.

What else will be happening on the day?

We will have a variety of refreshment stalls and local businesses present. There will also be a raffle, teddy tombola and the chance to buy Able2B merchandise. We are also hoping Giving Days will be present with some of there high end sports cars for people to view too.

Organised by

Our inaugural Discover Your Ability Event was held in June 2019.

The event sees children with and without disabilities coming together in a series of 3 team-building events at the Able2b Gym, culminating in completion of a challenge-success being seen as working as a pair so that the challenge can be completed together.

The aim of the event is to increase awareness of disability and what can be achieved as well as promote inclusive collaboration between disabled and able-bodied peer groups. Changing the mindset of groups, employers and employees of the future will promote a more inclusive environment in the workplace and society is our aim.

The event runs in collaboration with Norwich School with the challenge being held in the lower school grounds of the Cathedral.

Both Mainstream and Special Education Needs Schools can get involved.

The children get to know each other and learn how to work together, breaking down preconceptions, making friendships and raising awareness of the importance of inclusivity and how it can be achieved.

The money raised is put into inclusive school projects that we run during the academic year.

You can get involved as an individual or a school or organisation.
