Discovering Aberystwyth's Wild Food and Medicines
Sat 29 April 2017, 11:30 – 14:00 BST
Discover the edible and medicinal flora on your doorstep in Aberystwyth, with experienced wild plantsman Chris Hope - Wild Plant Guide.
These fun and informative walks are where you can re-engage with a range of our forgotten foods and flavours, while learning about the powerful medicine chest that is in every hedgerow in almost every part of the country. The walk is set against the backdrop of the busy historic coastal town of Aberystwyth!
On the day we will explore how plants live and grow, examine the plant patterns they produce, along with getting to grips with some of the basic foraging botany that is indispensable to successfully and safely foraging!
During the walk, we will be meeting, discussing and tasting a wide array of species. Prepare then, to meet and examine around 20-30 edible and medicinal plants in a two and a half hour walk through the town, its, outlying hedgerows, and down by the seaside.
I will bring some wild food treats for you to taste and my popular Wild food playing cards and 'top trumps' style cards for you to look at and play with! If you ask nicely I might let you buy a deck!
Children are more than welcome...under 16's are half price and under 12's come free.
Supervised dogs are also welcome.
Please note that no refunds are available but exchanges onto another similar event will be possible, but only with at least 14 days notice.
I always advise people to dress for the changeable British weather, and bring sturdy footwear. A notebook and pen, or camera are handy to record our finds for future reference.
I look forward to seeing you there!
