Event description

Description

Come and discover the people and places that reflect the presence of India in the heart of early 20th century Bloomsbury with this specially curated walk by Camden Tour Guides as a part of Camden Kalā.

Camden Guides have carefully chosen twelve places in Bloomsbury which celebrate the influence and contribution of Indian culture. Come and hear about two Indian princesses (one a secret agent; the other a suffragette) plus a social reformer who became the first person of Indian origin and first Asian to win a Nobel Prize for his poetry. The walk also reveals the location of a former embassy, the man who linked mosquitoes to malaria and tells the story of the founding-father of the Indian novel in English and his connection to a famous reading room. We end at a peace memorial garden where there is a special statute to a 'great soul'.
