Event description
Explore Meersbrook Hall on a guided tour with the archaeologist who has been revealing its secrets.

About this Event

Local archaeologist, Ken Dash, will lead this tour on 21st September for Heritage Open Days. For the last 18 months Ken has been surveying and recording Meersbrook Hall in an attempt to find out more about the way it was built and what this can tell us about its history. The first documented evidence of Meersbrook Hall is from 1759, although research has now revealed parts of it are older.

Ken will lead a number of guided tours showing visitors the clues he has used to read the building, and what his archive search has uncovered.

Due to the nature of the building each tour is limited to 25 people; booking in advance is advised. Please note there are uneven steps and narrow corridors as part of the tour, making it unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The reception area of the Hall will be open to all, with displays about the Hall - this area is fully accessible.

Meersbrook Hall is within Meersbrook Park. The closest entrance is at the top of Brook Road. There are other entrances to the park further down Brook Road, on Meersbrook Park Road, Cliffefield Road and Norton Lees Road. The nearest bus stop is on Chesterfield Road, opposite Heeley Retail Park. The following buses stop: 20, 24, 25, 43, 44, x17. The No 10 stops on Valley Road and Rushdale Road, a few minutes walk from the park. The No 18 stops on Derbyshire Lane, a few minutes walk from the park.

The event is a collaboration between the Friends of Meersbrook Hall and Heeley Trust.
