Come and join us this October half-term at the Hyde Park Learning Centre for our free Halloween Discovery Days, packed full of spook-tacular free family activities!

From 28 - 30 October take part in a host of free creepy crawly autumn and Halloween-themed activities, including:

  • Investigating our ‘feely boxes’ in the Witches' Den
  • Exploring our hair-raising nature trail, discovering fascinating facts along the way
  • Learning about the bats in The Royal Parks
  • Listening to a spooky story!

Join us from 11am - 3:30pm, with last entry at 3pm. Storytelling sessions will take place at 12PM, 1PM, and 2 PM with all other activities ongoing through the day.

Dressing up is encouraged, so why not get into the spirit and come dressed as a ghoulish ghost or spooky spider?

Please note:

  • Everyone is welcome to our safe fully enclosed site with toilet facilities (our grounds are accessible) but we do ask for no more than 3 children per adult and can only admit assistance dogs. At peak times, there may be a queue to enter The Hyde Park Learning Centre. Signing up for a free ticket does not give you priority entry in this queue, but we will be providing activities for children to do outside the Hyde Park Learning Centre while you wait to come in.
  • The activities are suitable for the whole family to enjoy, allowing you and your children to connect with nature together (and giving you the chance to find your inner child!)
  • For more information about visiting please see our FAQ's below or email us at PublicProgrammes@royalparks.org.uk.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the Hyde Park Learning Centre?

The Hyde Park Learning Centre is in the centre of Hyde Park but is well hidden and so can be difficult to find if you haven’t visited before. Please use this map to navigate to The Hyde Park Learning centre: https://goo.gl/maps/yWdmM6eZU4uznhdj6. Our “What three words” location is cabin.areas.urban

Who are Discovery Days for?

Discovery Days are designed for families. The activities are aimed at children from 3 -11 years of age. We aim to have a sensory activity suitable for under 3's and some more challenging activities that are suitable for 11 years + (Including the grown-ups!).

What time are the Discovery Days?

The activities will run from 11am – 3pm, you do not need to arrive at a certain time. We recommend arriving before 2.30pm so you have time to explore before closing time.

How long should we expect to be at the Discovery Day?

Most families spend 1-2 hours at Discovery Days but you are welcome to join for the whole event or as little time as you wish.

Do I need to prebook?

No, Discovery Days are free drop-in events. We appreciate if you register your interest online to give us an idea of how many people are coming. Please note that this is a drop-in event, so the email is not a ticket. Pre-registering does not guarantee entry.

What happens on busier days?

On our busiest days, so that everyone can enjoy the experiences, we may run a “cheese counter” ticket system to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable visit.

Do I need to let The Hyde Park Learning Centre know if I can no longer come?

No, you do not need to let us know if you can no longer come.

Can I bring a dog?

Only assistance dogs are permitted.

Is there somewhere we can have a picnic or buy lunch or drinks?

You are welcome to have a picnic outside the Hyde Park Learning Centre grounds in Hyde Park. The Serpentine Bar and Kitchen is about five minutes’ walk, and you can purchase food and drinks here. We ask that you don’t consume food within The Hyde Park Learning Centre grounds.

Can I bring a toddler?

All ages are invited to join us for Discovery Days. Most of the activities are designed for age 3 and up, but we will always include some sensory activities for toddlers.

Do adults need to stay for the Discovery Day?

Yes, all children must always be supervised by an adult during Discovery Days.

Can I bring a large group to a Discovery Day?

Everyone is welcome (our grounds are accessible) but we do ask for no more than three children per adult. Please contact us in advance by email publicprogrammes@royalparks.org.uk if you’d like to bring a group of more than 10 people.
