Manufacturing is currently undergoing its 4th revolution – technology, communication and automation are converging to drive new opportunities and new business models.
Major shifts in demographics, global demand and supply chains present businesses with fresh challenges and opportunities.
With Manufacturing recognized as a key component of a resilient economy, accounting for more than half of exports and R&D expenditure, Mr. Venters and Mr. Shields will discuss the manufacturing landscape in Scotland today, looking in particular at the challenges of staying competitive in a new era.
Gordon Venters is Head of Engineering, Sectors Scottish Enterprise. Gordon started his career at IBM, “The World’s Largest Computing firm” and held a number of roles before setting up his own business. Gordon has worked in Scottish Enterprise for 7 years.
Nick Shields is Director of The Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service, Scottish Enterprise. Nick started his career in Digital Equipment, “The World’s 2nd Largest Computing firm”. Nick went on to work for Polaroid and several Scottish Engineering firms. Nick has a Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Glasgow and an MBA from The University of Strathclyde.
