About this event

  • 6 hours

The training is designed to introduce participants to what we mean by dissociation, how we might recognise it in our clients and how we can work with it in the therapy room.

The workshop draws on learning from different theorists, such as Mearns and Thorne’s ideas of Configurations; Rowan’s work on subpersonalities and Schwartz’s Family System’s view of parts.

The day will provide information along with experiential exercises, and participants will be invited to consider elements of their own experiencing and how this might both add to their understanding and enhance what they can bring to the therapeutic relationship. We all dissociate at times and this can be as simple as arriving at the end of a journey having ‘tuned out’ and not having awareness of our surroundings en route.

About the Trainer - Sue Black

Sue is a BACP accredited counsellor and a COSCA accredited trainer. She has delivered training for over twelve years teaching counselling skills through to diploma and counselling supervision. She enjoys sharing experiences and knowledge in support of development so we can all learn together about the topic.

From a young age, Sue been curious about the alternative ways people can present in different circumstances, and what might elicit these different ways of being. She has read widely around the topic of dissociation, both theoretically as well as from the perspective of people experiencing ‘different parts of self’ and has worked with clients experiencing dissociative episodes.

Sue currently teaches with Persona and Rowan Consultancy and has her own private counselling and supervision practice in Angus.
