Professor Sir Ian Diamond is the UK National Statistician, Chief Executive of the UK Statistics Authority, Permanent Secretary of the Office for National Statistics and Head of the Government Statistical Service. As Chief Executive of the UK Statistics Authority, Sir Ian is also an executive member of the Board of the UK Statistics Authority. The Centre for Population Change is delighted to be welcoming him to give a distinguished lecture on 'The changing nature of official statistics: past, present and future challenges'.

Sir Ian’s career spans many areas of social and official statistics. Most recently, he served as Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen. Prior to that, he held the role of Chief Executive of the Economic and Social Research Council. He has also held the position of Chair of the Research Councils UK Executive Group and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Southampton. Until his appointment as National Statistician, he served as Chairman of the Social Security Advisory Committee and as a non-executive director at the UK Statistics Authority Board.

He is also a Fellow of the British Academy, Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Academy of Social Sciences.

Registration will begin from 18:00, with the lecture to start at 18:30.
