Event Details

On 23 May, the Young Energy Professionals Forum with SSE are hosting a panel event on Distributed Energy: Learning from the past and looking to the future.

The Feed in Tariff scheme was devised to motivate the development and deployment of small-scale renewable energy. The scheme attracted a diverse range of participants in terms of the types of organisation, the technologies used, and the geographies and network conditions they operated in. The scheme has recently come to an end. This is therefore a good time for an industry-wide reflection on the impacts of the scheme and to look forward to the possible futures of distributed energy. Here there are many challenges ahead of us. These challenges are technical, financial and societal and concern both generators and network operators.

This event presents a series of talks on these topics, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A where we will explore these topics further and consider them in contexts relevant to our own work.

Speakers

  • Richard Hampshire, VP Digital Utilities at CGI (Chair)
  • James Williamson, Renewables Engineer at SSE
  • Kristina Rabecaite, Business Development Manager, Power at Limejump
  • Mark Goudie (FUSION), Engineer at SP Energy Networks
  • Kyle Murchie (TRANSITION), Innovation Strategy Engineer, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks

James Williamson will discuss the Feed in Tariff hydro scheme development as well as the technical challenges, whilst Kristina Rabecaite will deliver a presentation on 'Demystifying the Commercial Opportunities for a Carbon Zero Future'.

Mark Goudie and Kyle Murchie will deliver a joint presentation on the T.E.F. Electricity Network Innovation Competition (NIC) Projects. As engineers involved in this NIC project, they will also facilitate a discussion around flexibility markets.

17:45 - Talks and panel discussion
19:15 onwards - Networking drinks at The Smokin' Fox pub (opposite SSE office)
