Diving for Depth in Mathematics

Who is the course for?
Teaching staff in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Aims of the course
In light of the new curriculum, this training focuses on exploring teaching strategies which will aid you in the delivery and assessment of ‘Secure’, ‘Mastery’ and ‘Greater Depth’ learning.
The course will include:
- Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) pedagogies
- Formative assessment strategies
- Encouraging mathematical thinking and reasoning
- Deeper learning questioning
- Making links to develop ‘secure’ learners
- Access to all resources used in the session.
Also included in this course is the opportunity to spend a morning with the course leader in her own school, observing her Y5 class in action using the principles explored on the course. A KS1/EYFS class can alternatively be observed. There will also be time to discuss the impact of the lesson and how formative assessment is used effectively.
The course leader is Helen Davids, a Primary Mathematics Teaching for Mastery Specialist for the NCETM, SLE for Primary Mathematics and also the Primary Mathematics Specialist for the Ebor Academy Trust. Helen is additionally a Numicon affiliated trainer and has NPQML status. In her role at Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy as Mathematics subject leader, year group lead and teacher, Helen is actively developing the delivery of the new curriculum, the mastery approach and assessment.
