DLM Training workshop - Database Continuous Integration
Come to this workshop to learn the fundamentals of database continuous integration. You'll see how to link a source control repository to a build system, implement steps to build and test the database, and how to use this to integrate and test your database code automatically.
Who should attend?
This workshop will cover the fundamentals of CI, practical demonstrations, worked examples, and 18 hands-on exercises. We’ll look at:
1. Introduction to Database Lifecycle Management (DLM)
2. Continuous Integration (CI): an overview
3. SQL CI & Redgate DLM tools
4. Automating Builds
6. The SQL CI plugin
7. Introduction to SQL Test (Redgate's add-in for SSMS for unit testing)
8. Automating Tests
9. DLM Dashboard (tracks changes across environments)
During the workshop you'll learn how to:
It's essential that you bring your own device with you to this workshop, as you'll need to use it during the hands-on exercises. Your laptop should fit this spec:
We'll provide you internet access so that you can connect to a virtual machine, which has all the software you'll need to complete the workshop.
We'll use Subversion, TeamCity, and Octopus Deploy for the main exercises and explain how this setup can be repeated with any combination of source control, build, and release systems e.g. TFS, Git, Mercurial, Jenkins, Hudson, Bamboo, etc.
Food and refreshments
All food and refreshments are included. Food includes breakfast (choice of cooked breakfast, sausage and bacon rolls, porridge, muesli bar, fresh fruit, yogurt or popular breakfast cereals), a 3-course lunch (soup, choice of hot mains meals, or a choice of jacket potatoes, cold meats, salad bar, followed by warm and cold desserts) and afternoon biscuits/cakes. Refreshments include a range of teas, coffees and fruit juice, water and cordials.
