Independent film Northern Soul was written and directed by acclaimed portrait photographer Elaine Constantine. With an uncompromising script, original soundtrack and fierce attention to detail, Northern Soul faithfully recreates the vibrant all-nighter scene of the 70's throughout the glory years, and tells an uplifting and honest coming of age story as two best friends confront rivalry, violence and drug abuse, testing their friendship to the limit.
Produced by Debbie Gray (Maxine Peake as Hamlet) the Bafta nominated film was a surprise top ten UK box office hit in the week of its release. As part of Film How, Debbie Gray, music supervisor Gary Welch and head of wardrobe Yvonne Duckett will give insight into how the film was made, and how the fashion and the music was so faithfully recreated - enamouring and mobilising fans of the music genre to lobby their local cinemas to show the film - moving it into the top ten by sheer force of will.
