DMC X Sheffield Digital Mash Up: Virtual Reality
Thu 12 January 2017, 17:30 – 20:00 GMT
Excited by the world of Virtual Reality? Are you the first to don a VR headset or are you left shaking your head at the strange antics of others? Wherever your interest lies, VR is here to stay and beyond Netflix and rollercoaster simulations it has a wide range of applications for business from marketing to product development. Join the DMC and Sheffield Digital on Thursday 12th January 2017 from 5.30pm to find out some of the exciting developments in VR and how it applies to you and your business.
The DMC has teamed up with Sheffield Digital to produce a series of three events looking at some of the latest developments in tech in our region. We'll be inviting speakers from local companies and institutions to bring us up-to-date on their work and how their products are being used.
The theme of our first event is "Virtual Reality - beyond entertainment". We'll be hearing from:
- David Widdowson from Lightwork Design about how they've combined their 3D visualisation tools with a games engine to create an affordable way to build VR applications,
- Lee Mullin & Robin Oldroyd from Autodesk, exploring Autodesk's new VR capabilities and their application in manufacturing and construction, and
- Ivan Phelan from Sheffield Hallam University who is working on a ground-breaking research project that uses the Oculus Rift to help amputees learn how to use prosthetic limbs.
All three speakers will also bring equipment so that you can experience their technologies for yourself.
Who should attend?
Anyone interested in current developments in VR technology from developers and tech entreprenuers through to any business who wants to learn how VR can help them in their business.
Book your tickets today and add the dates of our next events to your diary: 9th February and 9th March.
Drinks and food will be served.
