Event description

Description

Join us for the relaunch of our DMLab programme in London!

We are excited to invite you to our DMLab 'open house' on 11th June at Graeae. DMLab London is a meeting place for makers & musicians, Disabled and non-disabled people alike, to explore musical potential and get hands on with accessible musical instruments and technology.

It is a partnership between Drake Music, Graeae and Music Hackspace to bring together disabled musicians and technologists to imagine, design and build new accessible instruments and ways of performing. This could be redesigning an instrument, hacking recording kit or creating something ground-breaking that we can't even imagine yet. Big or small, fully-formed or just a glimmer, no idea is off limits...the floor is yours and the doors are open.

To relaunch the programme with a bang we have an event full of live music and chances to have a go with a bunch of cool instruments and tech.

Live performances from:

John Kelly - John is a musician, actor, activist and all round good guy. He is co-host of our DMLab programme in London and will be performing live with the Kellycaster, a guitar built by himself and Charles Matthews. The Kellycaster is a beautiful, expressive instrument of real quality.

DJ Arthro - All the way from Sweden is electronic music producer DJ Arthro who will be bringing his 'Spaceship' to DMLab - this is a rig which he has developed and continued to upgrade so that now he can control music, the light show and video mixing at the same time.

Dike Okoh - Dike is a songwriter and storyteller who produces lush R&B-influenced electronic pop songs. He recently played a piece Drake Music commissioned at the Barbican, with interactive tech built into the song and performance.

Get hands on with tech

We’ll have a collection of accessible instruments for everyone to explore - from market-leading products to things built in a day at our previous DMLab hackathons.

As well as all that, we will open up the floor for discussions and you'll have chance to meet and chat with other musicians, technologists, makers, hackers, sound artists, producers and more.
