About this event
A 'DOCMA' is a 5-minute documentary film made by 5 filmmakers in 5 different documentary styles. It’s also a game - designed to get your creative juices flowing! Roles and tasks are determined by lottery, and filmmakers must adhere to a set of rules: The DOCMA Commandments.
The completed DOCMA films will be screened on Zoom at the end of the festival and will be added to the ever-growing online DOCMA archive. Check it out for inspiration.
Come along to SMHAF 2021's DOCMA Filmmaking Workshop on Zoom where rules will be explained and roles allocated. No prior filmmaking experience necessary, but you will need access to something to shoot and edit on (e.g. a smartphone and laptop). You will then have two weeks to complete your own bit of documentary magic relating to this year's SMHAF themes: Nature and Normality

The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF) returns for its 15th year from 3rd to 23rd May 2021, exploring the theme of ‘Normality?’ with a wide ranging programme of online and outdoor events.
SMHAF is one of Scotland’s biggest, most diverse festivals. Its unique approach – programmed from the grassroots up by a team of regional co-ordinators all across the country, in combination with a film and performance programme curated by the Mental Health Foundation – ensures it connects with audiences that other arts festivals often struggle to reach. It aims to explore how the arts and film can help prevent mental ill health, challenge mental health stigma, and encourage participation from people with lived experience.
