Description

"A raw, vivid and enjoyably cheeky 90 minutes of theatre" - The Scotsman

Marlowe's legendary tale of one man's greed, desire and arrogance. Faustus, wanting more than the good life can possibly provide, makes a deal with the Devil in return for whatever he desires. But everything he wants does not come cheap...

The story of Faust is reputedly inspired by a real man named either Johann or Georg Faust, who was a magician or alchemist who lived in Germany in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. He is said to have had animals that could turn in to servants and performed all manner of supernatural feats.

Probably the most famous interpretation of these events came from Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe, whose short career produced some of the finest works of theatre to rival Shakespeare.

The story follows John Faustus, tired of his current life and unfulfilled, he seeks excitement and power through a deal with the Devil. Selling his soul to Lucifer in return for 24 years use of the devil Mephistopheles.

It is a tale of horror, damnation, and doesn't shy away from the eternal consequences of Faustus' actions.

This new production, in part drawing on the company's debut staging from 2008, seeks to fuse the traditional text with cabaret, burlesque, magic and horror theatre to create an immersive experience that allows the audience to experience Faustus' excitement, passion and fear.

Not for the faint hearted, this will draw on years of experience from performers, producers and cabaret artists to present a unique and original take on a classic of British theatre.

It will be staged in the undergound vaults of Edinburgh's South Bridge, specifically in the underground rooms of The Banshee Labyrinth- Scotland's most haunted pub. Strictly for over 18s, you won't experience anything quite like this and we welcome you to a tale of demonic deals, dripping blood and a taste of terror.

Produced by magician and award winning director Ash Pryce. Featuring a cast of Deadly Sins, Devils and Faust himself. Mixing elements of cabaret, burlesque, magic and horror.
