DOD Lecture Series: North Bridge Renovation
Event Information
About this Event
The North Bridge was constructed over the period 1894-97, by Sir William Arrol & Co., who also constructed the Forth Rail Bridge. The North Bridge is a Grade A listed heritage site, connecting Edinburgh’s Old and New Towns and provides essential public transport links to the city. Since June 2018, Balfour Beatty have been the main contractors of the North Bridge Refurbishment project. As well as discussing the structure’s comprehensive history, the Balfour Beatty site management team will demonstrate some of the innovative technologies being used on the project, including some ‘behind the hoarding’ insights, 3D digital scanning and 360° photography.
This lecture is part of the week-long Doors Open Days lecture series. Each day there are two lectures exploring different aspects of Edinburgh’s architectural heritage and global connections. On 28th and 29th September, 149 buildings across Edinburgh and East Lothian will be open to you to explore for free. Check out the programme on our website, or drop into your local library to pick up a physical copy.
