Event description

Description

First ever DODA seminar in the UK!

This informal seminar has been set up to give DODAs an opportunity to have open and honest discussions about the various things that are important to us. This will be an open forum.

The committee would like to remind people that this seminar is for DODA (Deaf children of Deaf Adults) only as we need a space to get together to talk about the things that are important to us as a specific community.

This event has been sponsored by the British Deaf Assocaiton and the committee is grateful to BDA for their sponsorship.

Jeff McWhinney will be facilating the afternoon and he will be giving a short presentation 'Deaf culture or is it an imposter? Should we be looking more closely at its norms and compare it to our own different experiences growing up in a sign language based culture? A new view and an opportunity for us to debate and appreciate these differences..'

Norma Mcglip will be giving an exciting insight into DODAs in Victorian times.

There will be a social event afterward. Venue to be confirmed.

There will be no lunch provided, entry cost £5 is to cover the refreshments costs. If there is any suplus, it will be donated to British Deaf Association.

We would be grateful if you could let other DODAs know of this event.

Look forward to seeing you all there!
