About this Event

Dodson & Horrell is excited to offer an exclusive evening with event riders Tom McEwen and Richard Jones to be held on Monday 21 January 2019 at Keysoe Equestrian Centre.

The evening Masterclass, compered by Spencer Sturmey, aims to inspire and educate the next generation of eventers and will give attendees the opportunity to meet Tom and Richard. The evening will cover training and advice for all levels in two demonstrations followed by a Q&A.

The evening will not only appeal to competitive riders but to all those who have an interest and enjoy watching the sport.

Doors open at 6.00pm. Masterclass starts at 7.00pm

The masterclass will consist of two half an hour demonstrations with an interval in between, followed by a Q&A and meet and greet. Dodson & Horrell's expert nutritionists will also be attending to answer any of your equine feed questions.

A special Dodson & Horrell goody bag will be given to every attendee.

Tom McEwen

Tom McEwen has riding in his blood, following in the footsteps of his equestrian parents, Bobby and Ali McEwen. Tom has had the privilege of being on the World Class Development (Podium Potential) Programme for many years, this is Lottery funded via UK Sport and seeks to identify and develop riders who have shown the potential to reach the world stage. In 2018 represented Team GBR at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon where the team of Gemma Tattersall, Piggy French, Tom McEwen and Ros Canter, took prime podium position in the Eventing at WEG. Tom is based at Gatcombe Park in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside, it is the spectacular home & estate of the HRH Princess Royal and her family. Clearly Toledo De Kerser (Tom’s mount at the World Equestrian Games) & Tom have their sights set on the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.

Richard Jones

Team Jones, Richard and his wife Victoria, are based at Lowlands Farm in Rutland. Richard Jones is emerging as a top UK eventer – in the top ten at Burghley and at Blenheim in 2018.

2018 ended on two highs for Richard - first with a 7th at Burghley CCI 5* Horse Trials in early September – in fact 5th of the Brits – with a foot perfect cross-country performance from Alfies Clover, clear and within a whisker of the time and clear show jumping. Then just weeks later he was off to Blenheim where he took his upcoming Kilballyboy Bob with a 4th at Blenheim CIC 3*. “2018 has been like a whirlwind, I can’t keep up with it. It’s been a brilliant season for Alfie with top ten places in major events following my big mistake at Badminton when I was going clear and took the wrong course. We picked ourselves up and went on to Bramham where we came 7th and were the second highest British rider. Then before I knew it, we were flying round Burghley.” We now look forward to 2019 with a superb team of horses and lots to look forward to.

Spencer Sturmey

Spencer made his debut behind the microphone at Weston Park Horse Trials. Marking the start of his career in the control box, he now commentates for major shows and events all over the world, including Hartpury, Blenheim, Barbury, Burghley and Ocala in Florida to name a few.
