Event description

Description

Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with the Egyptian British Chamber of Commerce to bring to you market specialists from Egypt to provide export advice to companies who are actively looking to trade in this high growth market.

The UK and Egypt have a long history of strong shared interests and in 2016 the total trade volume between the two countries totalled to £1.7 billion.

After a turbulent three years, significant investment into Egypt was reinforced at the high-profile conference in Sharm El Sheikh in 2015, when a set of regulatory and institutional reforms were introduced alongside a series of investment opportunities in support of the government’s medium term development strategy. Egypt remains committed to its economic reform programme, supported by the IMF. The recent introduction of a new VAT law, the floatation of the Egyptian pound and fuel subsidy reductions will lead to more sustainable growth. The World Bank estimates foreign investment to double in 2017, and growth is expected to remain strong at 5% in 2019.

Egypt’s core strengths include:

  • a young workforce

  • a large domestic market of 90 million people

  • strategic geographical location – with proximity to Asian, African and Europe

  • third largest economy in Africa

  • a number of free trade agreements and arrangements with the EU, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Arab Region

  • the newly-extended Suez Canal is the hub for world maritime traffic

  • several large new construction projects, including the new Suez Canal Economic Zone (www.sczone.eg) and a new administrative capital (www.thecapitalcairo.com)

Opportunities for UK businesses in Egypt exist in:

  • Education & Training
  • ICT
  • Oil & Gas
  • Retail
  • Energy
  • Construction & Infrastructure
  • Food & Drink
  • Pharmaceuticals
