Doing Change is a celebration of York St John University’s commitment to education for social justice and the platform for the annual Archbishop of York Lecture in Social Justice. The evening will begin with refreshments and the opportunity to engage with screenings, art works, posters and presentations by university students, sharing their engagement with social justice across the arts, humanities and sciences. Together we will explore how education can support our ability to imagine and enact a better and more just future.

This will be followed by student keynote speakers and the Archbishop of York introducing the annual lecture – this year delivered by Fozia Irfan, director of BBC Children in Need.

Institute for Social Justice

The Institute for Social Justice was launched in 2020 to underpin York St John University’s mission to ‘stand up for social justice.’ It does so through developing collaborative research and practice that seeks to address some of the inequalities and injustices facing society today.

In 2021 the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, became patron of the Institute for Social Justice. This patronage recognises our shared values and objectives as we work together to combat inequalities. As part of his patronage the Archbishop hosts an annual lecture which engages with some of the critical issues for advancing social justice.
